BOARD MEETING MINUTES

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Ms. Huchler-Smith moved,
Ms. Harbison seconded and it was unanimously carried to approve the
LMT SENIORS
Mr. Rogers stated he
received a telephone call from Ada Derr from the LMT Seniors group advising him
that the seniors would be having a “Health Fair” at their next meeting. Ms. Derr asked Mr. Rogers if he and another
Board member could sit at a table and answer questions about what services the
Disabled Persons Advisory Board could offer to seniors. Mr. Rogers stated the senior’s next meeting
is Tuesday, November 1st from
LMT EMERGENCY SQUAD MAILING RESULTS
Mr. Rogers said the
Emergency Squad advised him a second mailing was sent out. Mr. Rogers stated that he received the
mailing but the information card was not enclosed. He stated he would contact the Emergency
Squad and ask why the card was not enclosed.
BUILDING PERMITS
Mr. Rogers stated no new
permits have been issued since the last meeting.
ID CARDS FOR BOARD MEMBERS
Mr. Rogers stated the ID
cards were ordered and the cards should be received soon. Ms. Huchler-Smith stated that she would wait
to follow-up with McCaffrey’s regarding the accessibility issues she visited
them earlier about until she receives a card.
The Board agreed.
Mr. Rogers stated
he took the letter he drafted to local business owners he personally knew to
get their input. They thought the end of
the letter was a little harsh. Mr.
Rogers agreed with the input from the business owners. The Board discussed ways to encourage business
owners to install handicap parking spaces and comply with
The Board
discussed altering the letter to discuss the benefit of installing proper signs
and ways to draw more business from disabled persons.
Mr. Rogers
stated he received an email regarding the new GSA requirements for government
buildings, which exceed existing requirements for automated doors at public
entrances.
Mr. Rogers
discussed Flowers Mills, the age restricted community in Langhorne and how the
residents cannot open the doors at the Community Center because they are too
heavy. The residents have requested that
the doors be replaced and the Community has denied the request. The residents may take the Community to Court
to compel it to replace the doors.
Ms.
Huchler-Smith stated she would keep the new GSA standards in mind for any new
buildings or minor renovations. Ms.
Huchler-Smith stated she also received an email from Ms. Krulla that “Reaching
Out to Customers with Disabilities” was posted on the Board’s web site but
there is a problem with accessing the link right now.
The Board
scheduled the next meeting for Tuesday, November 22nd at 7:30 p.m.

adjourned at 8:25 p.m.
