BOARD MEETING MINUTES

APPROVAL OF FEBRUARY 2006 MINUTES
Ms. Harbison
moved and Mrs. Piccinotti seconded and it was unanimously carried to approve
the February 2006 minutes as written.
Ms.
Huchler-Smith stated that she contacted State Representative Steil to obtain
the state citation for the proper handicap parking space signage. Representative Steil’s office forwarded the
Ms.
Huchler-Smith and Mr. Rogers stated they met with Mr. Fedorchak about the
Township owned properties not being in compliance with the requirements for
proper handicap signage and the number of handicap parking spaces. Mr. Fedorchak stated the Township would order
the proper signs and the Disabled Board would identify the areas that need
proper signs. Ms. Huchler-Smith noted
that if there is only one handicap parking space at any business it must be
labeled “Van Accessible” with fines posted and the signs at a special
height. She stated she is also going to
rewrite the letter to the businesses because the original letter was difficult
to understand and the new letter will include a picture of what is needed to
comply.
Mr. Rogers
stated he would be meeting
with Ms. Donna Linney and Ms. made suggestions
to

Ms. Linney and
Ms. Reardon of what could be done to achieve better access at other Township
facilities such as the pool and the tennis courts on
The Board
discussed how to address this issue in the future to make sure signage and
ground markings are correct. Mr. Rogers
stated it would be difficult to determine the total number of parking spaces at
the
Ms. Dorko and
Ms. Harbison stated they worked on a three-panel informational brochure about
the Board and noted they left some blank areas for additional information to be
added. Ms. Harbison and Ms. Dorko
thought a logo for the Board would be a good idea to help people remember the Board. Mr. Stainthorpe stated that a logo would be a
good idea and asked if they had any ideas.
Ms. Dorko stated that she thought of the wheelchair symbol with a more
stylized look and text. The Board
discussed including the pamphlet goals they are working such as proper handicap
signage and an increase in community networking.
Ms. Harbison
suggested having shirts made for the Board members to wear to events. Ms. Huchler-Smith asked when the next
newsletter would be sent out. Mr.
Stainthorpe stated a “card style” newsletter would be sent out in the next few
weeks, but the following four-page newsletter would be sent out in early
summer. He stated the Board should write
an article for the next newsletter.
Mr. Rogers
stated the
Ms. Harbison
suggested the Board possibly partnering with Special Olympics. She stated she knows a woman who is very
involved in a local Special Olympics and she would contact her. Ms. Huchler-Smith asked Ms. Harbison to
obtain a schedule of local Special Olympic events.
The Board
discussed finding out the date for the Senior Expo and suggested having the
pamphlet ready for the Expo.
Mr. Stainthorpe
stated he went to the TMA Committee meeting for the handicap. He stated that

Ms.
Huchler-Smith stated she would like to see portable on-call transportation and
asked if that is included in the objectives of the TMA. Mr. Stainthorpe replied yes in addition to
other goals. Mrs. Piccinotti stated with
her disabled membership she could use disabled transportation for twenty days
per year in each participating state.

stated the TMA might suggest that the pilot program go somewhere other than
Mr. Rogers
stated there are no new permits.
