UPDATE FROM THE CHAIRMAN
Big Oak Traffic Signal
Mr. Rogers stated Jim
Majewski, township engineer gave him an update on the installation of the
traffic signal. He stated they are
waiting for a missing part to finish the installation and would have it soon.
LMT Seniors
Mr. Rogers said that he
would be giving a presentation to the Seniors sometime in September regarding
the assistance the Disabled Persons Advisory Board could provide.
Building Permit Requests
Mr. Rogers said that no
new commercial building requiring a permit is going on right now but the water
plant would be coming in soon for a permit to rebuild its facility.
LMT building renovations
Mr. Rogers said the
township has approved a sidewalk and curb replacement program. He stated the township is only doing a third
of the work that was originally planned.
He said the total project cost is $28,000. Mr. Rogers stated that no lighting
alterations are planned at this time. It

was agreed that in lieu
of the lighting alterations at this time, the Disabled Board would request that
higher wattage light bulbs be installed in the exterior light fixtures to
provide better lighting.
Mr. Rogers said he
learned more information about accessibility after meeting with Mr.
Majewski. He stated the device that goes
up to a building is called an access way if the incline ratio is 1 to 20 and if
the ratio is greater it is considered a ramp.
The Board discussed the location of the handicap spaces at the township
building. Mr. Rogers said the spaces are
spaced out if there are multiple entrances to the building. He said he requested an additional handicap
space and a van accessible parking space.
Ms. Huchler-Smith asked
if the Disabled Board could request that the lighting improvements be done in
2006. Mr. Rogers suggested the Disabled
Board send a thank you letter to the Supervisors for the improvements and
request that the lighting improvements be included in the 2006 budget. Ms. Huchler-Smith asked when the sidewalks
and access ramp would be completed.
Letters to Local Business Owners Regarding ADA Compliance
Mr. Rogers said Mr.
Fedorchak approved sending out letters to business owners. Ms. Huchler-Smith said she prepared labels
and asked when the letters would be sent out.
Mr. Rogers said the letters would be sent out quickly. Ms. Piccinotti said she thought this might
not be the best time of year to send out the letters.
Mr. Rogers distributed
the letter he drafted noting that many facilities and parking lots in the
township are not in compliance with ADA code that the township is obligated to
enforce. He said as it stands, the
letter is coming from the Township Manager and thought it would be more
effective if the letter came from the Chief of Police, being that his
department is the entity that enforces the law.
Mr. Rogers said he would go over the letter with Mr. Fedorchak and
possibly talk with Chief Coluzzi to determine whom the letter should come from.
The Committee
scheduled the next meeting for Tuesday, June 28th at 7:30 p.m.
The meeting was
adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
Respectfully
Submitted,
Lisa
Huchler-Smith, Secretary
