Yardley-Makefield Emergency Medical Services (YMEMS) has served
Lower Makefield Township, Yardley Borough, and portions of Upper
Makefield Township since 1955. The rescue squad’s mission
is to provide the most advanced and efficient emergency medical
care possible to the residents of the community, as well as,
educate and promote health and safety awareness.
YMEMS is comprised of both career and volunteer members at various
levels of training who maintain staffing 24 hours a day, 7 days
a week, 365 days a year. Personnel are among some of the most
highly trained Emergency medical Technicians and Paramedics in
the area. They are required to attend continuous training and
re-certification courses designed to ensure they are as up to
date on current treatment practices as possible. Recently, the
members of YMEMS began a fellowship program in conjunction with
St. Mary Hospital of Langhorne during which they accompany the
head physician of a variety of departments during his assessing
and treating of patients. This gives EMS personnel an opportunity
to familiarize themselves with all aspects of patient care at
the highest levels.
The rescue squad is a non-profit organization that is governed
by a volunteer board of directors, as well as, their career chief
and deputy chief. There are 3 ambulances maintained and run out
of the rescue squad including 1 Basic Life Support (BLS) vehicle
and 2 Advanced Life Support (ALS) vehicles.
In addition to providing ambulance services, the rescue squad
is an approved Bucks County EMS training site. They offer stand-by
services in the community for sporting events, school functions,
etc. CPR, First Aid, and other educational opportunities are available
much of the time.
They are also an approved safety seat inspection station offering
the community car seat installations, inspections, and education.
Appointments may be scheduled with the business office for either
the 2nd or 4th Tuesday of each month. Donations are greatly appreciated
as this is provided at no charge to the community.
YMEMS offers the community an excellent opportunity to volunteer
their time and services while providing a supportive learning
environment to those interested. Applications are readily available
at the building for anyone interested in either an educational
and fun volunteer experience or a rewarding career opportunity.
Inquiries are always welcome at (215) 493-4222, or for a tour
of the building please drop by 1140 Edgewood Rd next to the
