DISABLED PERSONS ADVISORY BOARD MEETING MINUTES

TUESDAY, AUGUST 22, 2006

 

A meeting of the Disabled Persons Advisory Board of the Township of Lower Makefield was held in the Municipal Building on Tuesday, August 22, 2006.  Vice-Chairman Huchler-Smith opened the meeting at 7:40 p.m.

BROCHURE

 

Ms. Huchler-Smith stated she contacted Minuteman and Penn Valley Printing for estimates to print the brochure.  Ms. Huchler-Smith showed examples of the #60 stock and glossy.  Ms. Dorko and Ms. Huchler-Smith agreed to print the brochures on glossy stock with Minuteman. Ms. Dorko mentioned that one section of the brochure needs to “bleed” off the side of the page which it did not in the example Ms. Huchler-Smith showed her.  Ms. Huchler-Smith stated she would contact the printer about the bleed.

 

UPDATE ON HANDICAP SIGNS

 

Ms. Huchler-Smith stated she prepared thank you letters for the businesses that complied and gave the letters to Marybeth States and Terry Fedorchak.  She stated she would continue to follow-up with the properties that have not complied.

 

COMMUNITY DAY

 

Ms. Huchler-Smith stated Community Day is Monday, September 4th and noted the Board would have a table starting at 12:00 p.m. and would display brochures and information about the Board.  Ms. Dorko and Ms. Huchler-Smith discussed having a banner printed with the Board’s name and logo.  Ms. Huchler-Smith stated that she would contact Ms. Donna Linney for information and prices to have a banner printed.  She noted there is handicap parking available close to the activities and anyone working at Community Day could park at the Township Building.  Ms. Huchler-Smith stated that she would work from 12 to 2 p.m., Mr. Rogers would work from 2 to 4 p.m. and Ms. Dorko would work from 12 to 2 p.m.  She stated she would contact Ms. Piccinotti about working at the table on Community Day.

Ms. Huchler-Smith asked Ms. Dorko if the Etiquette pamphlets would be available for Community Day.  Ms. Dorko stated that she brought drafts of the hearing, general disability, wheelchair and visual impairment brochures.  She stated she would e-mail the pamphlets to the Board members not at the meeting tonight and would ask for comments by August 28, 2006 then put the brochures in final form for Community Day.

 

Ms. Dorko stated she did research on copyright laws and found out as soon as an idea goes onto paper it is copyrighted.  She stated to have a logo copyrighted officially with the government, the owner needs to fill out the appropriate forms and file with a $45 fee.

 

HARVEST DAY

 

Ms. Huchler-Smith stated that she would update the Board on the final decision in September once she hears from the Director of the event.

 

UPDATE FROM THE CHAIRMAN

 

Ms. Huchler-Smith reported on behalf of Mr. Rogers that McCaffrey’s and Giant moved the handicap signs.

 

The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 26th at 7:30 p.m.

 

There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 8:10 p.m.
